FAQ

The ISES-ISEE Annual Meeting Organizing Committee is firmly committed to supporting science that reflects the mission of each society.  Due to the many challenges facing our scientific colleagues, particularly those in the US, we view this meeting as an opportunity to freely share our science and provide space for support and encouragement for all of our members.  The following addresses concerns or questions that have been raised as we look ahead to the meeting in Atlanta, GA.

You can review the current version of the program on this webpage www.isesisee2025.org/program-outline/. This page will show the program as it currently is and is subject to change.

Symposia submissions were evaluated based on scientific merit through a review process detailed here. Submitted symposia were reviewed by randomly assigned members of the Symposia Subcommittee. All symposia received at least 2 reviews and were scored on a pre-determined set of criteria. Subcommittee Co-Chairs considered the reviews and made a recommendation for each of the 141 submitted symposia. The Scientific Organizing Committee (SOC) Co-Chairs reviewed the recommendations, and the list was narrowed down based on quality as determined by reviewers’ comments and Subcommittee Co-Chair recommendations. SOC Co-Chairs also considered submissions that were similar or duplicative, and worked with submitters to combine those submissions. Collectively, the above actions ensured representation of as many topics and geographies as possible in the final 36 symposia included in the program. Submitters of rejected symposia were invited to inform their proposed symposia presenters of the opportunity to submit their abstracts for consideration in regular oral/poster sessions.

Workshop submissions were evaluated based on scientific merit through a review process detailed here. Submitted workshops were reviewed by randomly assigned members of the Workshop Subcommittee. Workshop Subcommittee Co-Chairs considered all reviews and made recommendations to the SOC Co-Chairs. The SOC Co-Chairs considered scientific quality, expected demand, whether a workshop had been presented before, and if so, how successful the workshop was, to select three full-day and six half-day workshops from the 20 submitted proposals.

Abstract submissions will be evaluated based on scientific merit through a review process detailed here. An international group of volunteers was solicited from both societies. Each of the abstracts received had 3 randomly assigned reviewers with the goal of securing at least two completed reviews per abstract. Reviewers will rate the abstracts based on a pre-determined set of criteria, which is similar to criteria from previous ISEE and ISES conferences. This includes the following evaluation points: scientific quality, timeliness, and relevance. The scores and reviews will be provided to the Oral Presentations Subcommittee that will select approximately 500 oral presentations for acceptance. This number was selected based on the proposed number of oral sessions that the program schedule can accommodate. Abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be assigned to the Poster Presentations Subcommittee for evaluation as poster presentations.

No. The joint meeting is a space in which your science should be presented as it was intended.
